It was during the production of 2016's "succession: awakening" that I realized I had been obsessed with the concept of gynoids for a while. I first made material about them on 2014's "Failurebeat." EP. I started coming up with material for another gynoid-themed release tentatively titled "she_is_real" that didn’t come to fruition. What exists of it can be heard on 2016's "singlesproject" compilation release. Finally, It was the general story concept of "she_is_real" that carried over into the making of 2016's "succession: awakening", which was a itself a "light" concept album. There weren't lyrics, but there was a general story structure.

"succession: awakening" was, in terms of story, almost solely about a special service android in a hibernation pod being sent a mysterious activation signal. "GYNOID HOUSE VOL. 1" (GHV1) starts in a very similar scenario, but moves beyond that scene and tries to tell a longer and more detailed story. Together these two releases start a canon for a larger fictional world to be expanded upon by future albums and projects. In accordance with this, GHV1 is accompanied by a short text story. The main conceit of the album was to act as a sort of soundtrack to the events of the story, not a 1-to-1 retelling of them, as most concept albums are. I’m calling GHV1 and all releases before it “Phase 1” of the Gynoid House story I’m trying to tell. "Phase 2" of the story will start with Gynoid House Vol. 2.

A consideration in production of GHV1 was that of having numbered releases (e.g. “Volume 1”, etc). The idea behind this was inspired by things like Bass Music albums of the 90s and is meant to inspire a more rapid release cycle. This is intended to create a production environment less dominated by perfectionism and more by creativity and spontaneity. Over the course of the Gynoid House series, it will show a granular view of an ever evolving style based on the initial musical inspirations and story threads laid down by this first phase of Gynoid albums.

Finally, the name "Gynoid House" originally is derived from what I wanted to call my music around the time I was making "Failurebeat." in 2014. I was never able to find a name to accurately describe the music I make. For example, "Failurebeat." combines a New Jack Swing backbone with the 90s House inspirations that drove "Ascension Groove '13", with VGM stylings and a sprinkling of metal influence. A small part of me wanted to be able to manufacture my own electronic sub-genre, but I quickly realized this was probably a fool's errand, if not outright pretentious.

Nothing under the sun is new, and that still largely holds true in the world of electronic music. So far everything I've made can be traced back to something else, but the synthesis of these influences together represent an informal style of doing things that I call Gynoid House. It's only useful as a descriptor as far as it can help describe what I'm already doing, and not any farther than that. It also shouldn't be taken seriously enough that it becomes any kind of dogma or inhibits me or others from trying out other stylistic approaches (if there ever are others that want to join under the banner of "Gynoid House"). I often have changing ideas of what Gynoid House would even be if it was formally encapsulated as a music genre or a fashion movement, so in that sense, it’s fluid anyway. Let's abandon semantics.
